Screenprinted Lokta Paper
Screen Printed Nepalese Lokta Paper
Strong Durable Paper Made from the Lokta Bush
Nepali
lokta paper has been used for almost a thousand years throughout Nepal in cultural
products, government documents and religious texts. This artisan-crafted paper
remains a popular paper source in Nepal but has also taken on broader
applications worldwide in fine artwork, home décor and origami sculptures.
Lokta Paper is made from the rapidly-regenerating Daphne bush found abundantly in
forests along the lower slopes of the Himalayas. Handmade Lokta paper continues
to be a significant source of economic stability for rural Nepalese artisans.
Since
Lokta is a non-wood shrub, the plant’s inner fibers are long and flexible, creating
a strong yet supple eco-friendly and tree-free paper. Natural Nepalese Lokta
paper has a soft texture and makes beautiful deckled edges when torn. While the
strong foundation of all Lokta papers is the same, the appearances of Lokta
paper are as varied as their applications.
Screenprinted Lokta papers feature intricate
designs hand silk-screened onto solid color Nepali
paper. Patterned Lokta paper is available in floral, geometric, landscape,
astronomical, abstract, natural and seasonal designs!
