RAINBOW GOURD
Gourd Artwork with Marbled Momi Paper by Mark Henry Doolittle
Mark Henry Doolittle takes hollow hard-shelled gourds and carves them into works of art. This process is similar to wood carving but gourds are generally softer which makes them a forgiving medium for carving. Once the carving is complete, Mark's wife Kathy Doolittle applies specialty paper to the surface of the gourd and uses a wood-burning technique to achieve the "stained glass" appearance. Kathy used Thai Marbled Momi Paper in this piece. George Post photography-image used with permission.
