Marbled Momi Paper Collages by Marcy Ann Villafana
Marcy Ann creates spectacular collages using Thai Marbled Momi Papers. Her exquisite use of white space sets her collages apart as she creates both outlines and details within her compositions. Her specialties include feminine human faces and sea creatures.
Inspired by the works of Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Manet, Salvador Dali, Mucha, and Patrick Nagel, Marcy Ann derived her own style of cutting paper. This particular form of art is an expression of her need to control her environment. Unlike other artists who can paint and draw, she finds satisfaction in the precision of cutting the papers with a plain old Exacto knife and their textures. Nothing new… nothing fancy. No templates… no machines. Not the new cutting techniques or gadgets…no curved blades, just her hands, her eyes, and a straight blade. She developed this style as a teenager as a result of her near-sightedness. Her work is mostly of the feminine form seeing the beauty in the light and dark spaces of the figure and expressing it through color and or texture.
