JAPANESE FISH PRINTING (GYOTAKU)
Gyotaku Fish Printing on Unryu by Jeffrey Canha
Gyotaku is a traditional art form that originated in Japan as a record keeping method to allow fishermen to record their catches. It has evolved into a modern art form practiced by many artists. In Canha's style of Gyotaku fish rubbings, the actual fish is his canvas. He applies colorful acrylic paint to the fish itself. Once completed, cloth or handmade paper, such as the Thai Unryu Paper, is pressed onto the surface of the fish. When the cloth or paper is removed, he is left with a beautiful impression.Go to https://jeffrey-canha.pixels.com/ to view more of Jeffrey Canha's artwork.
