Heavyweight Mulberry Paper - Bodhi Leaf - NATURAL

Native to subtropical regions throughout northern Thailand, the Paper Mulberry plant is the creator of the high-quality fibers used in this Heavyweight Mulberry Paper. Often referred to as "kozo," mulberry is a strong yet soft material that has been used in traditional paper-making for over a millennium. The long fibers offer flexibility and durability that make it an ideal paper source for encaustic art, lampshades, multi-media, painting, and framing.

This heavyweight variety of mulberry paper features a soft but sturdy mulberry base, with stunning natural-colored bodhi (boda) leaves. Bodhi is translated in western languages as "enlightenment" or "awakening," and the leaves come from the ficus religiosa, which has a strong association with Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha). These heart-shaped leaves are often known as skeleton leaves since only the intricate vascular frame remains on these nearly translucent inclusions. 

This natural kozo paper features deckled edges and is handmade in Thailand. Due to the unique and handmade nature of this paper, individual sheets may vary in weight, texture, and natural inclusions.
