Dating back to nearly the 8th century, Gampi is one of Asia's main fiber sources for traditional paper-making. Native to the mountainous regions of Japan and throughout the Philippines, Gampi is a naturally-growing crop that provides strong and flexible fibers for notable resiliency and durability. 

This plant has many unique characteristics that distinguish it from other common paper-making plants such as Mulberry and Mitsumata. The most well-known attribute of this type of washi paper is that it has a natural luster and sheen that provides a stunning surface for ink drawings and printing. Gampi paper is also considered water-resistant or "sized" as the fibers have a naturally low moisture absorption rate. This dark pink handmade Gampi paper features abundant fiber inclusions beneath a soft, smooth surface.
